Job Description

Information about the Role, Lines of Business and Team:

 

The role is responsible for leading the Compliance and Regulatory functions for Crum & Forster’s A&H Division by developing, driving and continuously innovating its strategic and effective regulatory and compliance programs for all life, accident, and health insurance products marketed through various distribution channels, both domestically and internationally. 

 

The role shall provide strategic leadership on best ways to navigate through an ever-changing regulatory environment in order to achieve the Division’s growth goals while mitigating risk and maintaining compliance.  The role shall provide oversight and guidance regarding the product development and policy issuance lifecycles by making viable recommendations, presenting solutions to drive positive change within the A&H Division, including but not limited to advising senior leadership on how best to maintain, supplement, and expand the A&H Division’s product portfolio.

 

The role will act as a consensus-builder for internal and external stakeholders when informing and proposing practical and effective solutions to address compliance and regulatory challenges.  This role shall also oversee all regulatory examinations, investigations; lobbying efforts; and industry relations for the A&H Division.

 

The role shall drive strategies to stay abreast of new regulatory and compliance developments affecting the A&H Division’s products, processes and partners.

What you will do:

  • Champion and execute transparent compliance and regulatory strategies to facilitate business growth goals, while mitigating compliance and regulatory risk.
  • Provide strategic leadership that drives positive change with how Compliance and Regulatory areas function in A&H and how those areas partner with the A&H Division’s internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with senior leadership and provide them with timely and valuable guidance and advice.
  • Drive change for continuous improvements to compliance and regulatory protocols.
  • Evaluate proposed solutions to state and federal regulatory changes and advise senior leadership and stakeholders of such vetted proposed solutions.
  • Develop strategies for, and implement skill development tools within, the compliance and regulatory functions to become consensus-builders by enabling the functions to independently provide vetted proposals to stakeholders allowing them to make best recommendations on how to collaborate and achieve business goals, while mitigating compliance and regulatory risk.
  • Champion the use of technology by partnering with Strategic Innovation Team to leverage in-house data  to improve products and services; propose solutions for Business Units to help manage compliance and regulatory challenges with their respective business; and oversee all compliance and regulatory technology initiatives.
  • Inform internal stakeholders in a timely manner, of new compliance and regulatory developments after evaluating Regulatory team’s assessment and providing viable solutions to overcome obstacles.
  • Be a team leader and builder who has an eye for talent with the ability to maximize resources and capability to deliver business results.
  • Demonstrate strong mentoring, relationship building, planning and organizational skills.
  • Guide and direct subordinates in their personal and professional development.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor with 15 years’ experience leading compliance and regulatory functions with a Life/A&H insurer or reinsurer; however, non-JD candidates with outstanding and relevant experience will also be considered.
  • Strong working knowledge of compliance and regulatory functions for Life and A&H products.  Exposure to Life products is a plus.
  • CRCMP(Re)I certification/membership or other relevant insurance and reinsurance industry certification desired
  • Demonstrated understanding of the insurance regulatory environment including HIPAA, ERISA, COBRA, ACA, and data security requirements, as well as state insurance laws and regulations.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing regulatory investigations, examinations, and data calls.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate strong working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated leadership in delivering results overseeing complex technology-based re-engineering of compliance and regulatory processes.
  • Ability to consistently execute and deliver results.
  • Demonstrated agility to prioritize and oversee multiple projects in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Project, Excel, PowerPoint Word; and legal/compliance research tools.

Crum & Forster is committed to ensuring a workplace free from discriminatory pay disparities and complying with applicable pay equity laws.  Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $122,500.00 to a maximum of $204,100.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
