Job Description

Custom Property – Underwriter II

 

Responsibilities:

- Review submissions as they come in and determine if acceptable within our risk appetite (High complexity risk selection/rejection)


- Maintain underwriting discipline by maintaining bottom line underwriting philosophy


- Remain within designated authority and seek approvals as needed


- Documenting files appropriately with complete underwriting thought process


- Manage assigned clients efficiently including:

  • Regular production visits
  • Quarterly review of assigned brokers’ profitability
  • Identification to Profit Center Manager of potential broker conflicts & successes
  • Assist in developing annual business goals for assigned agents/producers.
  • Responsible for analyzing results and maintaining accountability of agency partners within the branch.
  • Focus on service and being responsive.
  • Work jointly with other profit centers within the organization as needed to promote consistency

                                               
- Review Renewals 90-120 days prior to expiration


- Determine type of Notice to be sent: NONR; Conditional Renewal


- Identify if risk is a referral to Profit Center Manager, SVP or CUO


- Present Concerning renewals for referral at least 30 days before inception


- Review Modeling if appropriate to determine if there have been any changes in risk cat load


- If an admitted renewal send to the appropriate office for rating through the system determine whether we are in compliance with filed rates


- Verify claims information from year prior


- Verify all subjectivities received and documented


- Verify loss control compliance if applicable


- Review New Business and underwrite within the confines of Custom Property risk appetite

 

- Participate in training and initiatives to develop underwriter trainees

- Keep abreast of market trends, competition philosophy, products and distributions systems

- Attend industry events

- Exhibits working knowledge of other departments and how each department supports Underwriting (Claims,
Accounting, Finance, etc.)

- Established knowledge of treaty capacity (FAC RE)


- Place reinsurance according to corporate guidelines

Requirements:

- 3 to 5 years of Property Underwriting experience


- Experience working with wholesale brokers


- Excellent technical and marketing skills required


- Knowledge of market and regulatory environment


- Strong communication, negotiation, customer service, relationship, and organizational skills are required


- College degree or equivalent is preferred, and ARM, CPCU and MBA designations are a plus

Position location:  Remote location anywhere within Mid Atlantic Region (NJ, DE, MD, VA, eastern PA)

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $82,900 to a maximum of $121,600. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
