Job Description

Information about the Role, Line of Business and Team:

Vice President – Seneca Inland Marine     

 

Looking for a self-starter with broad experience in Inland Marine underwriting, operations, understanding the integration of actuarial and claims into the process of understand the profitability of an insurance division.  This role is responsible for overseeing a national Inland Marine team of underwriters, handling account referrals, marketing to our key producers, profitability growing the book and being a point of contact for conflict resolution.  This position requires a great deal of underwriting acumen and relationship management skills.

Primary Location: New Jersey, New York, or Illinois hybrid work locations possible.

 

What you will do:

  • Responsibilities:
    • Develop and execute a business plan in collaboration with senior management to attain profitable growth in line with the company’s overall strategy.
    • Proactively manage and monitor results and key metrics to achieve set goals.
    • Lead and manage a team of underwriters, coach and develop the staff
    • Manage the performance management process for this profit center.
    • Handle the referral process for this profit center, managing risks within authority and referring risks outside of authority to senior management as appropriate.
    • Develop and manage producer relationships.
    • Identify and pursue new opportunities within scope.
    • Lines of business underwritten include: Inland Marine and some ancillary related property
    • Has an in-depth knowledge of company products and services.
    • Can clearly articulate Seneca’s value proposition and underwriting appetite.
    • Participate in training and initiatives to develop knowledge base.
    • May participate in projects.
    • Travel – up to 33%.
    • Other duties as assigned. 

What YOU will bring to C&F:

  • Self-starter with strong leadership skills
  • The candidate(s) to have at least 15 years professional experience both internally and externally for insurance companies
  • Broad experience in Inland Marine underwriting
  • Established national broker relationships within Inland Marine/Property lines
  • The candidate(s) to be a seasoned underwriter that have been tried and tested in the marketplace and internally with actuarial, claims and operations with a pure understanding of the insurance industry.
  • Been there and done that and learned from it a few times.
  • Excellent problem solving/decision making skills with the ability to influence others.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid customer service and relationship building skills..
  • A proven team player with a drive to succeed.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to develop new business relationships.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications.
  • College degree or equivalent required; preferably in risk management, engineering or hard science.
  • CPCU and/or other insurance designations highly desired.

Crum & Forster is committed to ensuring a workplace free from discriminatory pay disparities and complying with applicable pay equity laws.  Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $194,300 to a maximum of $284,900. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
