Job Description

We are seeking a Staff Attorney for the Seneca Home Office Legal Department. The opportunity will be domiciled in New York, NY. The selected candidate will be a member in good standing of the New York State Bar with a minimum of 8 years defense litigation experience.

 

What you will do:

  • Handle varied personal injury caseload from inception through resolution
  • Prepare pleadings and discovery requests and responses, prepare motions as necessary in conjunction with case strategy
  • Able to conduct legal and medical research
  • Conduct Depositions
  • Provide client and claim professionals with analysis and recommendations in a timely manner
  • Communicates with Courts, Clients, Witnesses, Opposing Counsel and Co-Defendants in a timely and professional manner
  • Prepare and present witness and evidence at Depositions, Trials, whether Bench or Jury, and in Mediations or Arbitrations
  • Work closely with claim professionals and clients to develop a successful strategy to bring case to a prompt, efficient, effective and successful conclusion
  • Appropriate use of technology and billing system
  • Appropriately delegate work
  • Appropriate utilization of office staff

What you will bring to C&F:

  • Member in Good Standing of the New York State Bar
  • A Minimum of 8 years of defense litigation experience, either in-house or with fee counsel firm
  • Has tried cases to conclusion
  • Has considerable legal knowledge in the defense of personal injury litigation in the City of New York
  • Knowledge of medical issues
  • Ability to analyze and make recommendations as to settlement or trial of a case together with case values
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex factual legal or medical issues
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Has strong writing skills
  • Is a critical and strategic thinker

Crum & Forster is committed to ensuring a workplace free from discriminatory pay disparities and complying with applicable pay equity laws.  Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $131,000.00 to a maximum of $192,200.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
