Associate Underwriter - Contractor's Segment (hybrid with three days in our Morristown NJ office required)
Job Summary
Summary The associate underwriter is responsible for developing a wide range of knowledge and skills needed to become an underwriter within the Contractors segment. Works closely with the manager and other underwriters of the department and actively participates in on-the-job training and coursework. Develops essential competencies that will be integral to the Underwriter position with emphasis on analytical and interpersonal skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
The associate underwriter will be accountable for developing their knowledge and skills as directed by an individual designated by the Underwriting Director for the region.
Participate in the gathering, review and analysis of all necessary underwriting information to assist with proper risk selection, exposure analysis and premium determination for risks within the defined Contractors segment appetite.
Develop interpersonal skills through communication with targeted contractor segment producers within the region.
Assist with servicing existing accounts as assigned.
• Will work, under direction, with a limited letter of authority.
• May have assigned agents and accounts.
• Proactively acquires knowledge and skills.
• Build skills to make underwriting decisions and maintain proper file documentation.
• Pursues industry designations via coursework completed during on-the-job training.
• May participate in projects.
• Minimal travel required.
• Other duties as assigned.
Recommended Education & Requirements
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.
1 year in commercial lines underwriting or policy issuance.
• Pursuing insurance industry designations such as AINS, CPCU, CRIS, etc. a plus.
• Possesses strong communication and analytical skills.
• Self-directed
• Proficient computer skills and use of Microsoft Office Program (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $59,000 to a maximum of $86,500. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
