The VP Digital Transformation & Technology is responsible for guiding the digital and technology strategy for the Accident & Health (A&H) division, with a particular focus on modernization, self-service enablement, and scalable platform delivery.  The role spans technical oversight and cross-functional alignment across program business, direct-to-consumer (DTC) and agency travel insurance (TII), and C&F Stop Loss (CFSL) initiatives.

We are on an exciting journey to transform our employee, partner, and customer digital experience through the introduction of evolving and leading-edge technology. The VP, Digital Transformation & Technology will lead our current technology and operational foundation while establishing a roadmap for our future – one that considers leading edge next-gen core insurance systems, digital experience platforms, partnerships, ecosystems and data and analytic solutions that are on a modern architecture that supports easy, rapid integration in the cloud. This visionary leader will establish solutions that drive speed to implementation, speed to market and speed to value, at scale, to accelerate A&H to $5B. This individual will play a key leadership role in defining and leading our roadmap of complex, cross portfolio data and technology transformations with executives, internal stakeholders, and leaders across our organization to support the successful delivery of enterprise strategy. This leader will model A&H core values and actively build trust and partnerships and be a champion of collaboration across our organization as well as collaborating with C&F Corporate IT.  There is significant accountability in this role and the development and execution of our data and technology roadmap will be very impactful to our organization. The role will have a broad mandate across the organization, working with multiple initiative leaders, C-levels, SVPs and VPs to challenge and engage in delivery.

 

What you will do:

  • Be responsible for full stack technology operations supporting A&H including applications, application development, architecture, business analysis, CRM, data platforms, IT systems, services desk, cloud infrastructure, and technology and data governance.
  • Be the primary driver of the data and technology portfolio and roadmap, leading the planning, development, and implementation, and associated budget. Guide the expansion of customer-facing tools and support omnichannel experience improvements.
  • Ensure adoption of platform technologies, APIs, micro services and digital capabilities that will establish competitive advantage, differentiation and industry leadership, making A&H the easiest insurer to work with for our stakeholders
  • Oversee exploration of new technologies to set the stage for market expansion, new products, and new services.
  • Evaluate and identify appropriate technology stacks, platforms and vendors, including web application frameworks and cloud providers for solution development.
  • Explore and evaluate new/non-traditional data sources and advanced analytics capabilities; leverage advanced AI/ML to analyze data in real-time to drive business intelligence and decision-making
  • Collaborate with executive and leadership teams in defining organizational technology goals and how they facilitate achievement of strategic plans.
  • Accountable for coordination, prioritization, and quality, effective, cost-efficient delivery of technology
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across C&F and A&H to establish trusted working partnerships and alignment to successfully deliver transformation objectives and business outcomes
  • Drive strategic alignment and bold moves on technical platform decisions and serve as a trusted advisor to senior level peers across A&H and C&F Corporate teams on technology product strategy and vision.
  • Provide guidance and insight to establish governance processes, direction and control to ensure objectives are achieved and risks are managed appropriately for technology development. Ensure that all technology practices adhere to regulatory standards.
  • Lead and develop a motivated, empowered, productive and competent team through open communication and delegation of responsibilities and authority.
  • Be a team leader and builder who has an eye for talent with the ability to maximize resources and capability to deliver business results. Attract, develop, motivate, and retain a high performing team. Understands and is aware of staff needs; proactively addresses based on line of sight into the work; recruiting to fill open positions as necessary.
  • Plan and prioritize resources across the Technology team to ensure an effective balance technology innovation and transformation, long-term platform strategy, BAU project delivery, and ongoing maintenance and support of our platforms and services.
  • Guide and direct team members in their personal and professional development.  Provide direct day to day leadership, tactical coaching, direction, and guidance to direct reports including application development, technical product management, quality assurance and infrastructure services professionals.
  • Represent organization with technical vendors and partners ensuring mutually beneficial and quality partnerships.
  • Drive performance excellence through goal-setting, quality feedback, and performance appraisals within the team (midyear and annual).
  • Create a working environment where productivity can be sustained and accomplished, and where innovation and personal growth is encouraged and realized.
  • Drive and role model the A&H culture, values and C&F core competencies within their teams.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required. Master's degree preferred or equivalent experience
  • 15+ years of progressive experience, 10+ years of which should be leading transformational data and technology change in the insurance industry
  • Equipped with 10+ years of experience in leading and coaching direct and indirect teams and in agile environments
  • Proficient in a Microsoft environment, with Salesforce (Financial Services Cloud, Sales & Marketing Cloud), Multi-cloud architecture MS 365, Paas/Saas, web applications, data platforms, security, networking, and web applications
  • Demonstrated experience in large scale data platform deployments and data modernization initiatives including data warehousing, data lake architecture, machine learning and artificial intelligence
  • Solid understanding and experience in deployment and management of insurance core systems
  • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture and its application
  • The role will require up to 20% travel

Crum & Forster is committed to ensuring a workplace free from discriminatory pay disparities and complying with applicable pay equity laws.  Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $158,000 to a maximum of $231,800. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
