Job Description

Manage a staff of adjusters handling Bodily Injury (BI) Transportation Claims to ensure appropriate and timely coverage analysis, exposure recognition, reserve analysis and resolution of claims. There is also frequent contact with all levels of staff within the claim department, brokers, retail agents, insureds, vendors, and other internal customers such as accounting and underwriting.

 

What you will do for C&F:

  • Receives claims assignments. Sets up new losses. Verifies and determines applicability of coverage.
  • Determines the method and extent of investigation for each claim as required by company Best Practices.
  • Reviews and manages outstanding files, as assigned, for adequacy and timeliness of investigation, evaluation and reserve and maintains a timely diary for each case.
  • Evaluates and adjusts claims within the adjuster’s authority level.
  • Reports directly on technical matters to management.
  • Evaluates and manages litigated claims, determines future course of handling and proper method of disposition. Consults with the manager on those claims in which assistance and consultation is needed, as well as on those claims which exceed assigned authority.
  • Assesses recovery potential and is responsible for the development of information required to successfully pursue recovery.
  • Meets with current and prospective customers to discuss C&F claims capabilities and address specific claim needs.
  • Accountable for the equitable and prompt adjustment and management of assigned claims to disposition in accordance with company Best Practices.
  • Responsible for technical management of unit handling BI claims to include coaching, training, performance management and hiring/termination recommendations.
  • Provides strategic direction for the appropriate analysis of claims ensuring they are resolved in an equitable and timely manner.
  • Monitors staff and unit performance, review open and closed claims to ensure that claims have been properly prepared for adjudication and resolution.
  • Acts as a subject matter expert resource to others in the claim department regarding coverage, analysis of exposure, timely and accurate reserving, and settlement value and resolution strategy.
  • Reviews and manages litigation costs within established guidelines to ensure cost effective preparation and resolution of litigated claims.
  • Manages panel counsel to ensure litigation is managed and resolved effectively and appropriately.
  • Ensures the early recognition of exposures and setting of appropriate claim reserves to ensure that future claim costs are accurately estimated.
  • Monitors changes in the legal environment; distribute pertinent changes in insurance law, tort law, or litigation practices.
  • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with management and staff in other departments, to include underwriting, finance and executive.
  • Responsible for adhering to and ensuring that staff adheres to the organizations expectation to maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that builds trust with customers, clients, co-workers and management.
  • Understanding/knowledge of contractual indemnity and additional insured risk transfer opportunities preferred.

What you will bring to C&F:

  • College graduate, Juris Doctorate a plus.
  • 15 years of Bodily Injury experience in transportation claims (trucking) preferred
  • 10 years of managing a transportation claims (trucking) team preferred
  • Experience managing Sharing Economy claims is a plus.
  • Must demonstrate outstanding people skills, communication skills (both oral and written), and have the ability to work extremely well with internal and external customers at all levels throughout the organization.
  • Computer skills with a working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite of programs a must.
  • Travel occasionally required.

Crum & Forster is committed to ensuring a workplace free from discriminatory pay disparities and complying with applicable pay equity laws.  Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $67,900.00 to a maximum of $127,600.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
