Job Description

Summary:

The Crum & Forster Target Segment division is seeking a Senior Program Underwriter with multi-line experience, with a primary emphasis on Workers Compensation. This individual will play a key role in a large growth program focused on the Cannabis industry, performing account analysis on medium to large sized guaranteed cost and small deductible Workers Compensation accounts, as well as other commercial lines as needed. The underwriter will be responsible for developing a profitable, diversified book of business in line with departmental strategies, and will actively participate in marketing activities and collaboration with colleagues to achieve departmental goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the department Manager to achieve profitability, retention, and written premium goals across Workers Compensation and other commercial lines.
  • Make independent underwriting decisions within assigned letter of authority, ensuring proper documentation for all lines handled.
  • Assist the Manager in developing annual business goals for medium-to-large accounts, analyzing results for both Workers Compensation and other applicable lines.
  • Lead and/or assist in the marketing and development of all related products on the program and/or individual accounts, including physical visits, in-person events, and calls as required.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of department products and services, with a focus on Workers Compensation and supporting multi-line offerings.
  • Clearly articulate the department’s value proposition for Workers Compensation and other lines.
  • Participate in training and initiatives to expand knowledge base across multiple lines of business.
  • May be involved in other Target Segment large Workers Compensation and multi-line accounts as needed.
  • Participate in projects and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of underwriting large Workers Compensation accounts with written premiums >$100,000 required; multi-line underwriting experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience with underwriting deductible plans required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required
  • 6+ years of Workers Compensation underwriting experience preferred; experience with other commercial lines (e.g., General Liability, Property, Auto) is a plus.
  • CA state Workers Compensation underwriting territory experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to pursue new business and manage a renewal book across multiple lines, with strong communication and analytical skills.
  • Some travel may be required.
  • Proficiency in software and systems relevant to multi-line underwriting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Possesses or is pursuing underwriting and industry designations applicable to area of specialization and multi-line expertise.

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $61,600 to a maximum of $115,700. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
