Job Description

Crum & Forster is seeking a Risk Engineer – Loss Control Specialist to support its specialty and standard commercial lines insurance products. The role focuses on providing expert safety and risk management services to policyholders and underwriters, with a preference for candidates experienced in industry specialties such as propane and petroleum operations; along with other ancillary operations such as transportation, grocery, agribusiness, and assisted living facilities. The position is based in the service territory of OH, KY, PA, WV, VA, or NC.

 

What you will do for C&F:

 

  • Perform comprehensive risk evaluations and job site visits to identify exposures, assess controls, and offer risk control measures to reduce loss potential.
  • Develop service plans to enhance policyholder risk management programs.
  • Monitor loss activity and advocate for risk management tools to prevent accident recurrence.
  • Deliver safety presentations at industry and association events.
  • Collaborate with underwriting to retain accounts and pursue new business.
  • Ensure valued service delivery to policyholders across all locations.
  • Work closely with Underwriting, Claims, Producers, and other stakeholders to promote Risk Engineering solutions.
  • Communicate and develop business relationships with our agents and brokers.
  • Stay updated on laws, regulations, technologies, and loss prevention practices.

 

What you will bring to C&F:

 

  • Minimum 3 years of loss prevention or safety management experience with a multi-line Commercial P&C carrier or within a relevant industry specialty (e.g., propane/petroleum).
  • Bachelor’s Degree. Preference is a degree in Safety/Occupational Health, Engineering, or Sciences (equivalent industry experience considered).
  • Professional designations preferred: ASP, CSP, ALCM, ARM, CIH, or OHST.
  • Technical expertise in risk assessment, analysis, and control.
  • Knowledge of all lines of business: Auto, General Liability, Property, Workers Compensation, etc.
  • Strong problem-solving, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn new industry segments.

Crum & Forster is committed to ensuring a workplace free from discriminatory pay disparities and complying with applicable pay equity laws.  Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $58,700.00 to a maximum of $110,200.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
