Job Description

Information about the Role, Line of Business, and Team:

The Operations department within Crum & Forster’s Accident & Health division is seeking an Accountant to join the Operations team. This position will interact internally with Underwriting, Actuarial, Claims, Compliance, IT, and externally with the division’s business partners, and supports a variety of accounting activities across the division.

 

What you will do:

  • Prepare and record journal entries and supporting documentation for a variety of accounting transactions
  • Perform general ledger account reconciliations and bank reconciliations, and investigate reconciling items as needed
  • Assist with monthly, quarterly, and year-end close activities
  • Support accounting processes related to claims, reinsurance, cash activity, and other operational accounting functions
  • Review and validate data received from internal and external sources to support accurate accounting and reporting
  • Develop an understanding of how data flows through accounting systems to identify issues and support timely resolution
  • Communicate and collaborate with internal teams and external business partners to resolve discrepancies and support ongoing accounting operations
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and supporting documentation for assigned accounting activities
  • Contribute to a cooperative team environment and support department deadlines and deliverables
  • Assist with audit requests, special projects, and ad hoc accounting and reporting assignments, as needed
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance from an accredited college or institution or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of general ledger accounting experience, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close, preferably in a larger company or corporate accounting environment preferred
  • Insurance industry experience preferred; Accident & Health, specialty insurance, claims accounting, and/or reinsurance accounting experience a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint

The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $56,200.00 to a maximum of $82,400.00. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
