Job Description

Crum & Forster’s Financial Services Group is seeking a motivated intern to join the IFRS 17 Reporting team. This opportunity is ideal for a college or university student entering their junior or senior year who is interested in gaining hands-on experience with IFRS 17 and insurance financial reporting. As an intern, you will work with key stakeholders and subject matter experts to support IFRS 17 reporting activities. Responsibilities will include assisting with documentation, reconciliations, testing, and other tasks that contribute to the reporting process. This role offers valuable exposure to insurance accounting, financial reporting, and cross-functional collaboration. We are looking for someone who is proactive, detail-oriented, and eager to learn. The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, take ownership of assigned work, and communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.

 

Location: Morristown New Jersey or Remote; we currently have a flexible office/remote working arrangement. Some work in the office is anticipated.

 

What you will do:

  • Assist with preparing supporting documentation for reconciliations between IFRS 4 (the previous insurance contracts standard) and IFRS 17
  • Coordinate email communications with internal teams to request, track, and follow up on time-sensitive deliverables required to meet reporting deadlines
  • Assist senior accountants and management with pulling reports, verifying data accuracy, and identifying discrepancies for further review
  • Prepare and maintain quarter-close files to support an accurate and timely close process
  • Support testing activities related to system changes and process updates
  • Assist with identifying opportunities to automate files and streamline reporting processes using AI and other tools to improve efficiency and reduce preparation time
  • Provide support for IFRS 17 reporting to help ensure compliance with accounting requirements and assist with related projects as directed by our parent company, Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited

What you will bring to C&F:

Education/Experience:

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any of the following: Accounting, Finance, or related fields

Technological Requirements:

  • Intermediate/Strong excel skills (VLOOKUP, Pivot Table, SUMIF)
    • Since many of our tasks rely heavily on Excel, we are seeking candidates with solid Excel skills
  • Exposure to AI-enabled tools and a curiosity for applying technology to streamline reporting and workflow processes

Interpersonal and Communication Skills:

  • Capable of clearly sharing ideas, asking insightful questions, and providing regular updates both verbally and in writing
  • Strong ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with team members and other departments across the organization
  • Open to receiving feedback, taking on new tasks, and adapting to changes in a dynamic work environment

Organizational/Analytical Skills:

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong organizational and time management skills in a fast-paced environment, with exceptional attention to detail
  • Quick to adapt to new challenges
  • Ability to take full ownership of tasks and deliver high-quality results

Crum & Forster is committed to ensuring a workplace free from discriminatory pay disparities and complying with applicable pay equity laws.  Salary ranges are available for all positions at this location, taking into account roles with a comparable level of responsibility and impact in the relevant labor market and these salary ranges are regularly reviewed and adjusted in accordance with prevailing market conditions. The annualized base pay for the advertised position, located in the specified area, ranges from a minimum of $16.00 to a maximum of $27.50. The actual compensation is determined by various factors, including but not limited to the market pay for the jobs at each level, the responsibilities and skills required for each job, and the employee’s contribution (performance) in that role. To be considered within market range, a salary is at or above the minimum of the range. You may also have the opportunity to participate in discretionary equity (stock) based compensation and/or performance-based variable pay programs.
